IEXPLORE giving errors, w98se system

  Newuser1241 10:15 08 Sep 03

After recently loading but not using easy defrag from link in PCA, my previously stable w98Se system keeps crashing with the following error messages

IEXPLORE gen protection fault module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0004:00000bd3 or de1 or c14 for the last three in 5 mins.

I have already removed the easy derfrag prog but not getting any better stability. If its internet explorer 6 how do I go about repairing/reinstalling as have always just got upgrades etc via Microsoft website.

Would a reinstall of windows 98 followed by trip to Microsoft site for updates be easiest route?

System is 750 athlon, 20Gb hard drive, AVG 7.0, Kerio firewall, NTL broadband. Win98SE, Just to repeat has been very stable until last week or so. 3 years old and no never re-formatted as been devoid of problems.

Ta in advance

Backweb - have you tried Ad-aware or Spybot?

  MichelleC 14:35 08 Sep 03

Try running system file checker;

RUN/ type sfc and replace files as necessary. (sfc will shown all changed files, even corrupt ones).
