ie6 won't let me open links

  soup dragon 17:50 16 Mar 03

When browsing, ie6 will not allow me to open links to other pages which open in a pop up window, even the "click here's" which are used on this site. Netscape works fine with no problems at all. any Ideas? Cheers.

Copy this, paste into address bar, remove the space after // and click Go.

Follow the instructions.

Thanks Vog, But that's all greek to me.
Methinks it's some thing to do with java as the pages all note java at the bottom. I can't install ie6 over itself as it won't let me as it says I have the uptodate version, and also I can't uninsatll it as there is no option. in win 98 (i'm using me) Iremember you could elect to uninstall and it gave an option to repair. any ideas?

How to repair IE click here

However, before you do this, did you try this from the MSKB link I gave you:

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

1 Quit all programs that are running.

2 Click Start, and then click Run.

3 Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.

When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

If none of this works, try installing the Microsoft Virtual Machine (=Java) click here

And failing that, Java from Sun click here

I recommend that you try the "Urlmon.dll thingy" first.
