IE6 viewing pictures

Anybody out there know how to view pictures in IE6. On some websites which have pictures on them all I get is a white box with a red cross in it at the top lefthand corner.
I'm sure this is a Java page, I have been on MS website and downloaded "service pack 1 update", but when I try and install it I get the message that it cannot. Is there some other way of viewing these pictures

click on Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab.
Scroll down to Multimedia, Confirm that Show Pictures has a tick in the box on left.
If you had to tick it, check and see if pictures are now being shown.
if not, click on Tools, Internet options, Security tab, Click on Default key
