IE5.5 and PC Advisor cover disk

  TelFen 11:49 06 Jun 03

I recently installed IE5.5 from a PCA cover disk when I was having problems with my cable broadband connection.
I now want to go back to IE6 but all attempts to upgrade terminate with a message that all the components could not be installed.
I have tried from the MS download site as well as cover disks.
Can anyone please help

Try removing IE5.5 via the add/remove programs applet in the control panel.

What O/S are you using?

Lú-tzé I did try your suggestion but IE is not listed.

Amber-Shortie my OS is ME

It should be listed as "Microsoft Internet Explorer"

TelFen - do you have a windows ME disk? If so, run the system file checker

Go to start_run and type

sfc /scannow

as it is above - a space after the c and no space after the slash.

You will need to insert your CD.

This checks your system for any problems with essential files.

If all that does not work, try reinstalling IE 5.5 (or is the version you have the one which came with WinME?) and then check the add/remove programs applet again.

Lú-tzé - I tried your suggestion but ME did not recognise the command.
I located IE and deleted as many of the files as the OS would allow and then re-installed ME. The IE6 setup still cannot load all of the files needed.
