IE Favourites Issue

Hi all

My father installed IE8 beta without knowing what a BETA is. Ive got him back to IE7 but now when he adds a Favourite he gets message: 'error: "Unable to add
[Favorite Page Name] unspecified error".

Clicking on the Add to Favorites button within the Favorites Center leads
to the error message: "Unable to create 'website name': Class not registered"

Attempting to open a favorite website from the Favorites menu (on menu bar) leads to Print window appearing.

This is very frustrating as he would like to be able to open and save Favorites again as it worked in before installing IE8 beta.

There is a thread in the MS IE8 Beta forums but no solution.

Any thoughts or advice will always be welcome.

Maybe a system restore to a date when his favorites worked. This is sometimes better run in safe mode as you get no Firewall or security problems that way.

system restore might help.

Hi buteman

thanks for the quick response. We've tried System Restore and none of the restore points will work.

The error message states no changes were made to the system.

Prior to the IE8 beta install he said his restore points were working fine.

I'm wondering if this is related now.

Kind regards

Hi smackheadz

I'll try the Reset option on his PC tonight.

We've tried CCleaner and the problem remains.

I'll update this thread later tonight after I've tried the reset option.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Try Revo uninstaller, this may find some leftover files. Aine

Hi all - problem fixed!

Tried the reset suggestion from smackheadz with no luck.

Next I verified his Favorites folder was in the correct path.

Tried to uninstall IE7 from Add/Remove Programmes and received the message 'Found a newer version therefore IE7 couldnt be removed.

Googled some more and a MS Help page suggested to click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe

An IE7 uninstaller then ran, and believe it or not ran back to IE6.

I then went to MS Update and installed all the IE updates, and IE7 reinstalled perfectly.

Good scrub with CCleaner and removed all fragments.

All is working as before. I know its my Dads PC but I may change his account to limited user on the fly. Stop him tinkering, and to save frying my nerves.

Thanks for all the help good people.
