IE always returns "The Page Cannot be Displayed"

No matter what web page I try to look at my Internet Explorer always returns "The Page Cannot be Displayed" - including the home page. My Opera browser works fine, as does e-mail, so it's not my NTL broad band internet connection. Could this be a virus? I have up to date McAfee and a working firewall.

What about you IE settings?

Try selecting the default settings in IE Tools/Options/Advanced...

May be your Firewall has Opera as your default browser and blocks IE?

Just some suggestions :-)

Cheers Kev.

thanks Ken and Dan. Neither suggestion worked. My Firewall is set to let IE access the net and I ran the repair tool but my PC didn't ask for the windows XP disk so I assume all is well. Mmm - one to ponder on!! Cheers

It's sorted. Phew! I looked at NTLWorld's FAQ and tried the recommended change to the LAN settings to remove tick from "Use Proxy Server". This worked. Here's a link to this help page if anyone else has the same problem. Thanks folks.
