IE 8 Downloaded correctly. No Icon, unable to find it anywhere

Internet Explorer became unresponsive so I removed it and downloaded a fresh copy, to my XP system. Restarted at the end of the process expecting to see an icon on the Desktop. But there was nothing anywhere and is not shown on Add and Remove programmes. Can anyone suggest what may have happened. No help from Search either.

Look in 'My docs', 'downloads' you may find it in there.

wiz-king, Thanks for your suggestion, and I found an entry which called itself a "self-extracting cabinet". I opened it, clicked on Run and went through the same installation that I hade done previously. After a restart, as advised, I was in the same situation, so apart from finding out what's going on just for further knowledge, I won't waste any more time on the problem and appreciate your help. Chrome is working fine so that will do for me.
