IDE controller problem

I've just installed an IDE controller (PCI) card, so that I can run an extra CDROM drive. On start up, the card doesn't see the drive. I also tried connecting the current (S and master as they were already set up) DVD and CD, but it doesn't see those either.
The drives do work when connected to the motherboard, and do have power (will eject, but that's all).
The card says something about RAID, but google just shows HDD set ups.
Any ideas please? Please?

Check the cable connection again, check the jumper settings. If Master doesn't work, try Cable Select.

Also check that your PCI IDE adapter supports ATAPI devices (like your CD drive). Although most do, some adapters only support hdds.

Hmmm. Cable select made no difference. The 'manual' only mentions HDDs - I presumed that was because CD drives were simple. I guess I was the simple one!

Off to buy something that will do what I want now!
