I have lots of icons by the clock which I don't use, how do I delete most of them please?

I have Vista home basic

This is the Notification area (at least in XP) - the icons are mainly for important areas such as AV, firewall, Safely Remove Hardware and Volume.

Normally a right click on an icon will bring up a menu to start an action, change configuration or close down the process.

You will have to find out which ones you want to remove and then uncheck the relevant box(es) from Start>Run>Start up tab.

Right click on the task-bar click on properties,

Notification area>customize

All the options are there.
