IBM Thinkpad T22 Hp Scanjet 3400c blue screen

The instant I connect this scanner to my thinkpad t22 I get a blue screen and the laptop reboots. I have tried other USB devices on the same port with no problem. Ansd have also tried the scanner on other PCs with no problem. The only suggestion that makes sense from HP is that the USB port is sharing the IRQ 9 with other devices and that some sort of conflict is occuring. I have tried to change the IRQ of the devices (sound, modem, power management, video card) which are sharing this IRQ but am unable as this option is greyed out. I disabled as many of these devices but still the same problem. I suspect it might be a conflict with the video card. Is there a solution?
