IBM Thinkpad 770Z & cd rom problems....

Hi All,

I have bought a IBM with no Operating system on it.I have a startup disk for windows 98 & the Operating system on cd-rom.

The problem is i have interchangable floopy and cd-rom drives(Only one fitted in the machine at one time).so when i put the startup/recovery disk in it aborts the cd rom driver. So when i switch to the cd-rom no driver has been installed because the cd-rom was not fitted at the time, because the floppy drive was in.

How do i get it to recognize the cd-rom ?

if the cd is windows 98 se i think it should boot off the cd im not sure about first edition

otherwise sysing the hard drive to windows 98 (sys c: - make sure you have sys.exe on you boot disk)so it so it boots into dos without a floopy disk is the next option. This will then mean you can copy the cd driver files off you boot disk along
with you autoexec.bat and config.sys

Hope this helps Michael
