My PC was working fine with xp he 2SP.
I had I386 copied to C: drive and this was also fine.
I used an upgrade disk to xp pro.it seemed to install o.k., but then found tha I had my usb external drive missing and also my usb mouse would not work, but that is another topic.
Trying to use sfc /scannow I relised that the registry had reverted to the cd drive.
I have changed the registry back to C: drive at the correct registry points; but scannow is still asking for the windows disk.
I know the registry has been changed correctly, any suggestions please?

It's probably looking for a file called Driver.cab, copy it from your XP Upgrade disc to your C:\Windows\Driver Cache\I386 folder

Or the I386 folder itself. It should be about 73mb, the XP Home version is smaller

brundle, This is terrible, you were kind enough to help me and I failed to respond and have just noticed, please put it down to relief??.
Thanks, your suggestion did the trick and things are fine.
Appologies again.
Happy new year
