I get faster d/l speeds on wirelles laptop than PC

  SANAP 14:34 15 Jun 10

I have an up to 7mb BB connection and today I just noticed that I can get a d/l speed of 720KB/sec with wireless laptop as opposed to 560KB with a 5 year old dell dimension desktop. I did the readings at same time ie this morning but not together. File was 500mb from an ftp site.

I would like to get 700kb on desktop as well but I thought ethernet was ethernet. I am not using a network card. XP pro is the OS, its a 3.oghz pentium d chip and a netgear dg834pn router. Macafee is on both machines.

Baffled and would like to get it sorted but flummoxed!!

Have you tried testing the download speeds on each pc using a recognised test site:

For each pc I suggest you try the same test several times as there can be quite a bit of variance due to external factords (which could be what happened during your 500MB file download test).
