Hubs, switchers, routers, ports, confusion stuff !

I have broadband coming into my house on a network cable, not adsl. I want to sent it to 3 computers. I also need to network the same 3 computers together for backup, file and printer sharing. The network could be cable or wireless. I have been into computer shops and seen all types of routers, hubs and switches, and have got very confused. The incoming broadband has a fixed ip address, and so would I need somthing to a DCHP thing to create ip adresses for the 3 pcs. At the moment they are linked with a simple belkin switch and have fixed ip adresses. The other thing is can you get hardware firewalls to go in at this point. ??
