HTML Editor in Firefox

Trying to use Firefox as my web browser. I'm used to IE6 where I can view the code, which comes up in Notepad and I can edit it. In Firefox however, although I can view the code I can't edit it. Why not? Do I need a plug in or some add on?

Because Firefox has its own code viewer and IE does not. Copy and paste it into Notepad via Ctrl+A,C,V.

Actually, being able to edit code in IE can be a bit dangerous. I've occasionally tried to edit what I thought was my website on the hard disk, but was the website on the internet. IE lets you edit and save it, but it's stored as a temporary file, and seems to disappear completely when you quit IE. Very frustrating. A warning would be nice, but you don't get one. I think that copying and pasting is a safer option.
