HP Printer problems

Hi there,

I have recently bought a new Dell Vostro 200 PC and I am trying to connect my old HP Deskjet 843c printer.

I have bought a parellel to USB cable, which i have inserted from the printer into the Usb port in the front of the PC.

My PC is picking up on the USB. However when i go to print something the printer is nowhere to be found and is not a print option? I have gone to the 'add printer' in the control panel but the PC will not accept it.

Is it a non-compatable printer or a vista problem?

Please can someone help!

USB issue, your printer is vista compatible...

do you have the latest drivers installed...

As above it will not print without drivers loaded, and the ones you got with the printer will not work if the new Computer runs Vista. You need to go to HP site for Vista Drivers for your Printer Model

you don't have to download the driver. It should be inherent with the Vista installation.

This from the HP website;

Good luck,

what you said;
"I have bought a parellel to USB cable"
Does the printer not have a USB connection? If so why not use this?

I suspect you will need to for the Vista driver to work.

My printer is an old one and doesnt't have a USB connection in the back. Thats why i have used a cable to convert the parellel to the usb i have inserted in the front of the PC.

HP website states that i shouldnt need to download anything?

Do you think it could it be that the cable connecting isnt vista compatable?

PC have a "parallel" connection? If so you may be able to "add new printer" in Vista via that route.

If it doesn't then I'm not sure what the next step is.

Soory,

there isn't a USB connector on the printer?
This diagram is from the .pdf manual on the HP site.

It seems to show one, though slightly recessed. perhaps you've just missed it?
