HP Print cartridges

Just replaced a colour print cartridge for a HP DeskJet 1280 at work, but now there is no colour at all as if it's dried up. There's a date on the packaging that says Oct 2003 and another on the cartridge that says 20040403 which I assume means 03/04/2004. Am I right in thinking that the cartridge has dried up and is now useless?

By the dates you have given I would think the cartridge has dried out. Unfortunately due to you opening it, you will not be able to exchange it.

I'm not familiar with HP printers, but I would think there is a software cleaning facility in the printer management interface panel.

This should allow a cleaning cycle for the print head.
