HP Pavilion N5412 Keyboard / driver problem

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion N5412 laptop whereby the 'g', 'h', apostrophe and backspace keys fail to function. Sometimes uninstalling the keyboard from the Device Manager and rebooting will get them to work, but more recently I can't get them to work at all. I have tried uninstalling the 'one touch' driver for the shortcut buttons which had caused some problems in the past also but this doesn't help this time. I suspect a conflict somewhere.
It's running win XP home sp2 with all updates, & 640mb RAM
I seem to be running out of ideas
Help please!

I suspect a faulty keyboard. Laptop keyboards are notoriously fragile little things.

Well, wouldn't you know it... I downloaded drivers for the modem and soundcard from he Windows Update site and the keyboard now seems to work normally again. Strange beasts these computers!
