HP LaserJet 2055d slows when printing A5

This is not a very serious problem and I am merely curious about the answer. The printer works fine and has done so for quite a while....it is on its first refill of toner

But

While printing A4 the machine belts through its routine, churning out the pages at a good speed (30+), duplex or not, provided the document is not too fancy. It has only the basic factory fitted RAM which is enough for most purposes, though if the file is complex with added pictures it does halt briefly between pages to recharge its memory.

However, if I print A5 paper the time for the first print is similar and then the machine carries on at about half speed, continuing to make whirring noises long after the paper has emerged!

Nothing wrong with the print quality, it just has this thing with A5 printing.

Why pick on A5 to go more slowly?

I did a search and found one hit where this type of printer was slow printing A5 labels (link text and scroll down to 3rd item) unfortunately the page wouldn't load for me; perhaps you will have better luck or possible post on the subject forum?
