HP JetDirect cards - how do I test them?

  lemon2 00:09 22 Aug 05

I have four large workgroup size printers that I want to sell shortly, they are fitted with HP JetDirect card interfaces.

I wanted to test the JetDirect cards but I don't have a network to plug them in to. I wondered whether it were possible using a patch cable just to plug each one in turn to the ethernet connection on my laptop, in the same way I did to test the parallel ports - would that work?

What is the correct way to test JetDirect cards?

This may help click here If you sold them as reset to factory settings you could be OK because the latest drivers are available from HP.com for download.

If you print a config page from the printer control panel, you should get two printed pages. The second page shows that the Netcard is a worker.

If you only get one page, then the netcard is not recognised or is duff.

Correction to last. Some HP printers give two sheets, not all. Pre 4000 series, it's one sheet with the IP address, post 4000 it's two sheets with the IP.

What printers do you have?

Two are 5Si MX and the other two are 8000DN
