HP error

Hi Guys

Just wandered if someone could help with the problem my boyfriend has with his HP laptop.
He turned on his computer and then the Fire Wall updater started automatically. In the mean time there was a power failure and when the power was on again he couldn't start his computer anymore.
All that he gets is the message that the Firewall updater is still on then after few seconds his computer restarts by itself and this goes on and on and on.
He tried to shut it down and restart it, but same thing happens.
Does anyone have any idea of what needs to be done to get out of this loop?
Many thanks

Try the same as in this other thread - though being a laptop, F8 might not be relevant.

Try it in safe mode.[just keep tapping f8 as the computer starts.]
If it works try last good configuration or a system restore to when it was working.
