HP 9100+ CD-RW drive reads audio CDs but not data

May the Schwarz be with you... 16:11 24 Nov 03

Hi, I have had my HP 9100+ for about 3 years now and since last week, I haven't been able to read any CDs at all. However, if I run a program such as Nero or CDRWIN, it can see how many MB is on the CD but when I try and do that through My Computer, it says 0MB all the time. My normal CDs won't also autorun like they normally do. When I put in an audio CD, I can't read what's on it in My Computer and it says that the CD is corrupt or something but when I run it under Winamp, it is able to play perfectly. Someone help me please!

If you've used your CD-RW rewriter for playing audio CDs as you infer, then the drive and/or laser has probably given up the ghost.

CD/DVD-ROM drives and rewriters are not the most robust or long lived of components, in particular rewriters; you should always use a separate CD/DVD-ROM drive for audio, DVDs and installing software and use the rewriter for its key role i.e. burning.
