HP 5550 carriage jam

  brado 13:16 01 Jul 06

I have a 5550 printer, connectd to XP pro OS via USB.
I was cleaning the cartridges and made a test
page, which wasn't satisfactory. I then tried the next intermediate clean button, again this was not satisfactory. Black is OK but colours have lines. I then tried the third button, to clean.
The printer heads slammed hard over to the left and out of sight, rocking the machine in the process.
Both lights are flashing and the cartridges appear to be very firmly jammed.
I cannot get them to move using the software.
Can anyone help please

Unplug the power lead - then you can retrieve them by hand.

Thanks for reply.
Unfortunately I cannot get at them. They are locked firmly on the left and out of sight.Nothing will move, only the white drive wheel

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the cover of the 5550, so that I can get at the carriage.
