How to set List as Explorer default

This may sound trivial, but it's infuriating me! I have XP Pro and use Explorer a lot, but the icons in each folder always show as Large Icons. I click on the View list (Large Icons, Small Icons, Thumbnails, List, Details) and select List, but next time I access that particular folder, we're back to Large Icons! I've searched about but can't find a setting to make List the default. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I never use Explorer any more. I now use Powerdesk 5 (a free download from PCA). Many more facilities and easier to setup.

Set the view that you want. Then Tools | Folder Options, View tab and click Apply to all Folders.
