How to Repair XP Pro?

  BillySilly 21:59 30 Nov 07

Though I have had some useful suggestions I have not been able to solve the problems with my XP Pro on a Dell 6400 Inspiron. Subjects were as follows
160s delay for "My Computer" and "Send To" XP Pro
Task Scheduler Problem on XP Pro SP2

I thought I would try a repair. I booted from the Dell Reinstallation CD, took the Repair option. It then asks which Windows installation. There is only 1 so I type 1 enter. It asks for the Administrator password which I type in. It then gives C:\windows but doesn't do anything!
Am I missing something? How do you repair a Dell Inspiron?

Thanks VoG.
In the end a repair didn't work so I have done a Dell Ghost reinstall from a hidden partition onthe HD. Xp is now fine: it has done a total of 90 MS security upgrades which says something about MS & XP!
The Ghost re-install fell over but I believe all is well. I got a message saying the re-install had failed with error 36000 but no ghosterr.txt file to check.
After reinstalling everything I thought I would defrag the hd using Paragon Total Defrag 2009 SE.
I am not sure what I should see but Defrag's disk map is:
1 78.4 Mb, %1 (OEM Service Volume) Local Disk * Fat 16, Dell Utility
2 107.2Gb NTFS c:
3 Local Disk * 3Gb Unknown (pink), DellRestor
4 7.8 Mb unallocated
Defraging 2 (c:) was fine. Defraging 1 it reports:-
'Incorrect dir structure - errors in dir tree. CHKDSK should be used to correct. Error Code: 0x10021'
How do I run chkdsk /f on this hidden Dell Utility partition?
