How to reduce file size of a video

  PC_HelpMe 10:09 08 Sep 10

I have just edited one of my recordings, having chopped some bits from it. However, the edited version says it is about 4gb in size!!!!! It is only a half hour clip as it is (I put it in avi format) but the size of this file is larger than other recordings I have which last an hour and they are avi too!!!!

How can I make the file size smaller without it affecting the quality of the actual recording - is there software that I would have already on my computer that would let me do this (on Vista)?

Thank you.
