Whenever I want to customise a folder by changing its icon the default file is shell32.dll.More often than not I wish to use one of my own icons. Is it possible to place additional icons into shell32.dll?
If so, how do I do it?

You should be able to use your own icons without trying to put them into shell32.dll (which I don't think is possible anyway).

When you click on change icon in the icons Properties you should be able to Browse to your own icon to choose it.

You can also get plenty of free desktop icons from the Internet - just Google for them.

Or design your own icon with Icon Constructor:

Thanks for the replies. It was the giveaway of the day icon constructor that prompted the question. It would seem that it is not possible to augment shell32.dll. I shall continue with my icons in my own folder as usual.
