How to open a 'DEX' File please

  Ponkin 14:07 31 Aug 07

Having typed a piece of info to keep for reference, and saved in probably notepad or word pad, I now find I am unable to open what is described in properties as a 'dex' file.unknown application shown ikon those little red, green and blue dots.I have no idea how this comes into being. How do I open this file. I have tried the usual alternatives. Can anyone help please?

My guess is you mistyped whensaving it.

Try by renaming it as a .txt and see if notepad or wordpad will open it.

Thanks VoG; Is there something in Folder Options/ file types that I can do?

Highlight it -right click-select rename.

just change the dex to txt and leave the rest of the filename.

If it doesn't work then just change it back again.

The file isn't labelled Dex. Just my file name. When I hover the curser above the file it says DEX File 208kb. When I then properties it lists as a Dex file, opens with unknown application

sounds as if you have saved it without a file extension (the bit after the .)

try renaming it
and see if it will then open by double clicking on it.

Sorry had to go away, thanks for the responses.
OK I renamed the file 'DEX.txt' and tried to open and got a banner saying "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the Folder Options control panel" but I am unclear how to proceed.

My computer - Tools menu - folder options - file types - scroll down to txt and then select notepa from the list.

if txt is not in the list then click on New - type in txt click ok and then as before.
