how much power?

  bythor 22:26 19 Nov 03

I'm planning to put my desktop into my caravan which uses 12VDC. I'll get an inverter, but not sure what the minimum power rating is (of an inverter) that'll run a standard desktop and TFT screen. Anybody help?

As a TFT screen uses less power than a CRT I would guess that an inverter that can power a normal TV will do the trick. It will only become a problem if you want to boil a kettle and toast some sarnies at the same time.

halfords sell a 12v inverter for £35 this is rated at 120 watt and runs my laptop no probs, your desktop wouldn't stand a chance on that though. I don't know of any inverter that would give you the wattage you need. Potable suitcase generator perhaps ?

thanks lads. I know there are 300W and higher inverters, it's just that I need to know the minimum rating I should use (thus the cheapest!!).

450 watt power supply ?

150 watt screen ?

140 watt Printer ?

60 watt Light ?

800 watt total but suggest go for 1000 watt's

The wattage for each piece of hardware should be in instruction manuals
