Hi,

How long should it take, on average, to download a 256MB file using a 512k Broadband connection. It took me 1hr 45mins. Is this about right or should i expect better results? Could you point me to a site where i could possibly test/time my download speeds. I already use a Bandwith test but i would like to try one where you actually down load a file and can compare it to what the average time should be. Thanks

512kbits per second = 64000 bytes per second * 60 = 3.8MB per minute.

256MB / 3.8MB = 66.66 minutes.

Realtity will be much different. You will not maintain 512K it will depend on the download site, how busy your ISP is etc.

105 minutes to download 256MB means you avaraged 2.44MB a minute @ 406K
