How to keep laptop on...with screen closed?

Hi -

I have an Acer laptop but the screen is damaged. I'm going to put it to use, using a secondary monitor, keyboard and mouse - effectively just using it as a desktop.

I'd like ot be able to close it up and sit the monitor on top of it - but if I close the screen, the laptop goes into standby/hibernation.

How can I get round this?

Cheers.

Operating System?

It`s a setting in Power Management - just need to know which OS for instructions.

Depends on operating system, control panel, power options, somewhere there will be a setting for options when you close the lid, set to "do nothing"

How to Disable Notebook Computer to Stand By or Hibernate on Closing Lid in Windows XP

1. Log on to your computer as an administrator. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Performance and Maintenance.
3. Click Power Options.
4. Click Advanced tab.
5. Under “Power buttons” section, select Do nothing from drop down menu for When I close the lid on my portable computer option.
Turn Off Stand By on Closing Lid
Again, any other settings such as Stand by and Hibernate can be set based on own preference.
6. Click OK button.

From click here. G
