how to install xp on laptop with defective dvd rom

Hi, im trying to reinstall xp on to my laptop after a problem with a virus. However the dvd rom has been playing up for a while and now wont read cd's. I thought i could use norton ghost to copy an install from another drive, taking the laptop one out and putting it in my drve caddy, and copying it over. However when i put it back into my laptop it goes immediately to blue screen. Is there any other way to install xp onto the laptop hard drive without using the dvd rom drive
Regards Stuart

Do you have a floppy drive? or can you boot from USB device?

you can install USB dos drivers and then run from the external drive

i can boot from usb. Do i need just to copy all the xp setup files onto it and then go into BIOS and select USB drive to boot.
