How hard is it to disnose laptop boot problem

  tmh2 17:12 16 Feb 09

Basically the laptop is dead. It won't even light up as if it recognises the power cable!

Is there a step by step set of instructions I can use to repair it or should I just re-cycle it?

It is a bit old now, at 7 years. So what do you think guys n gals? What would you do?

1. check laptop power adaptor and cable is giving out correct voltage
2. see if it will power off mains with battery removed, a dead battery can drag the voltage down and stop the laptop from starting up.

As above you need to throw the battery as that will have had it unless its been replaced. Try booting without the battery, just on mains
