With the risk of trying to tell some of you people how to suck eggs. After trying all the suggested ways to improve boot up speeds, i decided to try more memory, adding another 512k. And low and behold my boot up speed has gone from over 2 mins to 20 seconds. Hope this helps somebody.
Ps i now have 768k of memory from 256k.

It should also speed up the loading of programs generally.

Indeed it does. Well worth £61 from crucial.
Ps their service is great.

Ditto both to upgrading memory & the service from Crucial. After having problems with memory from elsewhere I will only buy now from Crucial.
