How to enable USB2 without XP SP1?

  wint 17:52 08 Sep 03

I need to remove Service Pack 1 from my XP home installation. It has become unstable and very slow.

I really only installed it to enable my USB2 ports (in addition to my USB1). I have 3 devices using USB2 so don't want to lose this function.

How can I enable USB2 without SP1??

You will have to use the USB2 drivers that came with the devices.

If your USB2 is via a PCI card, then just install the driver that came with the card. If you do not have a driver then a visit to the web-site of your card manufacturer will enable you to download one. The driver will enable 98, 98se ME, and versions of XP without SP1 to recognise USB2. Regards. j.

Sorry Chris. I must remember to refresh before posting! :o(

and that did the trick.

USB2 still appears to work too.

The PCI card did not come with drivers & there is no manufacturer's name on the box, just a description so finding a driver could have been a little trick.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
