But how does Google know?

I was curious to read an article where Google was remarking on the most popular searches in different regions of the UK.
I can understand they can identify a search comes from Britain but how can they identify area? Surely an IP address would only tell them the ISP?
Call me paranoiac but I'm curious!

IP adress will tie you to a house if it is a static address, a dynamic one gives you the nearest town or city that has a switching node.
try it and see click here
