My tape backup keeps reporting errors which mainly seem to be caused by the following: C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office Search Services\IndexingService\Projects\System\Build\Indexer\CiFiles\.

How can I stop this operating in the background as I can find no sign of it in the startup menu?

Open My Computer, Right Click each drive, Properties, Uncheck the "Allow Indexing Service to Index this disk for Fast Searches" box. Follow prompts.

May take a few minutes on larger disks.

Thanks for the advice Jester but when I right click properties on my C drive I do not get "Allow Indexing Service to Index this disk for Fast Searches" box. I get 'general', 'tools' and 'sharing' tabs only and the box does not appear under any of these. Am I being really thick? I am running Win 98 SE.
