How do I know if I have a virus on my computer?

A week ago I was on the internet and I opened a web page that soon wasn't responding. I closed it but soon after I've noticed that my laptop (by the way is a dell) started working slowly, like never before, for example the internet explorer openede really slow or not at all, the start menu blocked, etc. Then I also noticed that my free space on disk c (the disk with the opperating system windows xp) reduced itself with 10 mb/hour more or less. I know that there is a virus that can "eat" your space on dsik but my antivirus programme, nod32 didn't find any. Can you help me please?Do I have a virus or I'm just being paranoid?
Thank you!

Tales of viruses eating your HD are apocryphal. If NOD cannot find it then it is not a virus. In addition to VoG™s' suggestions I would run Spyware Terminator and see if it brings anything here
