I have an internal modem that was set to COM3 when purchased. Then I had to reformat the hard drive. I have got everything else working except the modem, the computer will not recognise. Can anyone help?

Many thanks, Rod

My Computer>Control Panel>System>Device Manager, remove entry for modem and reboot it should then pick up the modem and assign com port.

I'll give it a try.

If that dosn't work then try this, My Computer>Control Panel>Add New Hardware>NEXT>NEXT>NO>NEXT>scroll down to Ports(COM & LPT)>NEXT>under manufacturers select (standard port types)>under models select Communications Port>NEXT>NEXT.
This should give you a new com port.
If neither works let me know.

You can also add or remove a Port from Control Panel>Network>General Tab>Dial Up Adapter>Highlight from where make your choice.

But the numbering goes up...:-)
