How do I get free music on to an ipod from a cd?

I have a cd which I would like to copy onto my ipod. It is in the drive and I can see the songs on itunes in my vista laptop. I have selected the tracks which I want and connected the ipod to the laptop. What do I do now?

Hmm............ I have just had a quick go and have got the songs into itunes on the laptop, but they won't sinc with the ipod. In itunes, under devices there is a folder for 'Sheila's ipod', but the songs are in a separate folder under this. I have tried dragging it to the music folder, but it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Cancel my last problem! I exited from itunes and then opened it again and it seems to have worked OK now. Very many thanks.
