I need to fit a PCI/USB adapter card to a spare pc which has no usb ports fitted anywhere. The OS on the pc is Win 98 se but only has about 300mb ram. Is it possible with this spec and in simple terms what's the point by point procedure?

1. Switch off unplug

2. ground yourself to prevent static
3. open the case and check there is a spare PCI slot (white) at the rear of the motherboard

4. go and buy a card (try and avoid the ones with a via chipset) approx £8 - £10 make sure it has a CD with win98 drivers

5. remove metal plate from rear of PC and place card in slot push firmly until fully home.

6. secure card with screw

7. replace cover plug in and switch on

8 insert CD and follow prompts to install drivers

9 plug in your USB device and install its drivers if appropriate

10 sit back and bask in the knowledge of a job well don and Enjoy your new USB device

some cards require drivers to be loaded before inserting the card! just check in the manual!
