I have just been given a Seagate 1 Mb hard drive.
Could you tell me please how to fit it in my Dell XPS T500 computer.
Do I have to tell the computer that I am using it throgh the 'Add new hardware' facility in 'Control Panel'?
Then how do I use it?
I am running desparately short of memory - not only in my aged body but in my Dell Machine.

Look at the hard drive and set it as slave, usually theres details of the jumper settings on the case(the jumpers are the little plastic covered metal connectors on the hard drive). If theres no details on the case you'll have to get the details of the website for Seagate.
Open the case find a spare connector on the ribbon cable, plug it in and plud it in to the power supply. Switch on the computer and that should be it. Should have said, each ribbon cable will only allow one master and one slave so before you plug it in make sure that whatever else is on that ribbon cable is set as master
