How do I find a DLL file?

  pcbobby 10:27 10 Nov 05

OS is Win 98SE. using IE6 & OE

My PC was hit with a virus.

When using the Antivirus software: Lavasoft and NoAdware to dispose of it, it appears that in my panic (and ignorance), I have also got rid of some files that may have been involved.

The message that appears on the screen is: Error starting program. ‘Required file. C:\Windows|System\Wininet.DLL’, not found.

The scenario now is, Internet Explorer, misconfig, and about 50% of my programs will not load.

To access the net, I have had to shortcut the Dialup Connection to the desktop and download Netscape to search the net.

Your advice will be much appreciated.

If you use sfc /scannow you will need the installation disk handy.

You can download Wininet.dll from:

Thank you De Marcus, and PaulB2005.

Stuartli. Installation disc? Win 98?

  De Marcus™ 11:14 10 Nov 05

You may need you 98 installation cd to run the system file checker. If sfc finds files that need replacinf it will take them from you 98 cd.

I shall try the CD route first, if that fails, then the zip file, if I can open it properly!

Could not advance beyond typing sfc.scannow.
Looks like it is the zip file. how do I unzip correctly to the the target?
