The 1st link doesn't work for XP home but I eventually got to 'Services' in Control Panel. Is this how you disable it: highlight it right click select 'properties' select 'logon' select 'disable' for profile 1? TR

Yes, from what I can remember, that is the way to disable a service in XP.

Have a look at click here details of Services within XP.

Highlight the IMAPI CD-Burning COM is what I should have said. TR

Right click the service that you want to disable click on properties, stop it if it's running then click on the drop down list named startup type and set to disable

All I did was open Control Panel, right click the CD-RW drive, chose properties and then the Recording Tab. Unchecked the box that said Enable CD recording on this drive.
