How do I clone mSATA to mSATA?

Hi

My laptop presently has a 32gb mSATa SSD and 1TB HDD installed in raid configuration, with the OS installed the mSATA.

I wish to replace the 32gb mSATA with a 240gb mSATA, retaining the 1TB HDD

Could someone advise me on the best way to go about this please?

The laptop only has one mSATA slot / one SATA slot for the HDD.

My initial thought was that I could clone the 32gb mSATA to the 1TB HDD, then swap over the mSATA's, sticking the 240gb one in - and then copy the cloned drive from the 1TB HDD over to the 240gb mSATA. But now I see that they are in RAID configuration, so not too sure I can do that.

thanks

Make an image of the msata to and external drive with something like Acronis

make a rescue disk to boot the Laptop from

swap out the msata drives

boot from the rescue disk and restore the image to the new msata drive.

Yes any USB external drive or even a USB stick (if large enough)

thanks

actually i've just remembered I have a 500gb usb drive I can attach, so I can stick the msata image on that.

how big are the rescue files roughly?

The rescue disc is just a cd its a means of booting the machine (because you no longer have the op system) and a cut down version of the program to restore the image to the new drive.

i see

so a 1gb usb stick will be fine for creating a recovery disc

what's all this business about cloned ssd images not being properly aligned once changed over and this uefi business about?

Yes a 1G stick will be big enough.

ssd images not being properly alignedsee here

Yes That can backup a drive or partition and create a recovery Cd
