How to delete an unpleasant page on startup.

A week ago my wife was on the pc pondering which site would provide greater opportunity to spend my hard earned pension when before she could start an avelanche of porn came flying in. Not only could it not be deleted it actually began to multiply to even more sites and pages. I shut down the pc and re-booted but it was still there. I then disconnected the modem and rebooted but still there. I then proceeded to try and uninstall each item. However each time my wife and I tried this the sites came back with a vengence. Over a period of several days we were able to dispose of all bar one. This defies all our combined inabilites. It has finally come to rest on the desk top on startup, and no amount of searching the files gives any indication of its location.
The page in question has as its title
C:\EXTREME_LIVE_SHOW.hta
Its my lady wifes birthday today so it would be a nice surprise for her (and for me) this page could be consigned to the nearest black hole.Any ideas? Bowbells

a few courses of action to try first clear history and cookies (note if you have any sites that require passwords make sure you know them as deleting cookies will delete saved website passwords) to perform these tasks open your internet browser click the tools button click on internet options in the drop down list tempory internet files delete cookies then below that to the right you should see clear history if this fail grab a copy of spy bot search and destroy it is free to use and if you are unsure of what is safe to delete post back click here

click here for Spybot S & D this should clear the porn.

click here for EMS Free Surfer Mk11 to stop irritating popups.

click here for RegscrubXP to clean the registry of any lingering nasties ( Only suitable for Windows 2000 and XP )

Delete the file C:\EXTREME_LIVE_SHOW.hta from you C Drive. Then under tools menu, Internet Options, Home Page change it to Google or something else.

Sort of on the same track, I have recently installed Safeworld from the Sept PCA's cover CD. It is certainly doing the business as regards popups and advertising banners. Without the burden of all the extra graphics my (dial up) internet access is noticeably faster. It has an easy to use cookie control feature as well.

The other bit of software which protects me from an absolute avalanch of spam (about 60% or possibly more) is SpamPal. It took a bit of setting up and I have set the Outlook rule permanently to delete rather than to move the spam to a different folder.
