I want to replace my cd rw drive on my Packard Bell computer with a DVD RW drive. So far I havn't found any information on how to choose a suitable drive.
Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.

I have an NEC dvd drive in my PC and its sbsolutly fantastic, never lets me down, I have not had a bad burn with it yet and ive owned it for over 12 months. I can highly recommend NEC dvd drives.

I bought a Sony AW-G170A DVDRW about a month ago - fastest write speeds available and dual layer as well. Found it excellent.

Costs around £20 from Scan:

It's produced in conjunction with NEC (see FatboySlim71's comment above) to help keep costs down as profit margins are now so slim.

In fact most lower cost optical drives these days are rebadged products from a handful of manufacturers as the reduced profit margins make it uneconomic otherwise.

The NEC equivalent is, apparently, the Optiarc AD-7170A.
