How can i uninstall windows XP pro

I have an old 7gb HD laptop which i accidently installed another copy of windows with SP1 on which has taken up most of my HD space, I was told to format the HD to get rid of them and start again but it wont allow it as the format option is greyed out, i have tryed using formatting tools but they wont do it either! any suggestions please

OK i tried that but the option for format is not shown, how else can i get rid of the other copy of xp? suggestions please

When you say the format option is greyed out, do you mean in the drop-down menu when you right-click on the drives' icon?

it was through computer management/storage etc, tried it that way but am told quit any disk utilities or any other progs using this drive which i did all i can but it still wont allow it,

OK - so nothing to lose if you try it that way - ie, right-click on hard drive icon in My Computer and in the drop-down menu click on Format.
