HOW CAN I STOP MY NOISY FAN!!!!

I have just been given a new computer from my insurance company. it has a intel celeron d processor (2.66ghz) and the cpu fan gets noisier each minute the computer is on. it is so annoying. can i change settings somehow so i can safely slow the speed (currently at 4000rpm) but still keep cpu protected. the system temps are currently 41 for system and 45 for cpu. please help it is sooooooooo anoying.

Perhaps it wants oiling? I know its new and I know it should not, but perhaps it does.

sorry I am really not clued up with pc's not sure what you mean by what socket. the motherboard is a ECS ELITEGROUP P4M800PRO-M if that makes any sense, got it from the user guide book.

If you work for the insurance company? Why not ask them to exchange it for you?

I use a Thermalright heatsink with a quiet 1800rpm fan - it's virtually inaudible.

My P4 (2.4GHZ) is currently (at 00.30hrs in Spain) running at 38º in a room that's 28º. The CPU temperature is actually lower than the hard drive and system temperatures.
