The Operating System is Win 98SE . Pentium 3 650Meghz

I have just acquired and old PC as a reserve backup.
To delete the ‘Welcome to Windows’ login box which, pops up just before Desktop appears when booting up. I have tried the following ways.
The Password facility in Control Panel.
The Network facility in Control Panel.
The *.pwl in Registry.
The sysedit in Windows
TweatUI in Control Panel;

To make matters worse, it also pops-up when my Home Page, Google appears after dial up!

Do any members have any other suggestions for removing this annoyance?

do you mean the login window
If you are the only person using the computer and want to have it automatically log you on,

Start / Run / "control userpasswords2" - no quotes
Uncheck User must enter a user name and password to use this computer
hope this helps

Is it possible to use Registry Editor to remove this pest?

Are you going to be networking the PC or just accessing the 'net? If you're only accessing the 'net, go into Control Panel/Network settings (failing memory, might be slightly different), remove all but TCP/IP (ie.delete Client For Microsoft Networks/MS Family Logon and File & Printer Sharing). Reboot and see if it helps.
If you're networking it, remove the same items, reboot, the log-on should go away after the first time if you just type in a name and press Return in the password field - TweakUI will work properly (auto-logon) if it refuses to disappear.

Hi Skyver.
Just accessing the 'net.

PS. I am not sure what I did, but I have been able to stop the logon box appearing when I accessed the net.

I shall now try your suggestion to rid it from appearing when Windows is loading.

Skyver.

I deleted several of the items that you mentioned.
Although I did not touch TCP/IP, they vanished as I was removing othem items.

When I tried to access the net, I could hear the dialing tone - but message appeared to say that could not contact the server. I tried for or five times.
I am using my 'new' PC to send this.
I obviously have removed somthing that was needful!

Go back to Control Panel/Network, click Add, click Protocol, select TCP/IP, click OK, reboot, it should reinstate your net connection.
